 \\Quick Coffee// Kristin
« Thread Started on Mar 17, 2008, 2:44am »

I hung up my mobile phone from a particularly annoying phone call as I stepped into the crowded coffee house. Starbucks was always crowded like this in the morning when everyone was getting their quick coffee on the way to work, just like me really. Except I was also meeting a friend here before I was on my way into the office.

It was early so I was still really tired, if it wasn't for the makeup I wore I'd look really bad at the moment. I ordered my cappuccino and gave the barrister my name before stepping back out of other peoples ways and looked around catching my appearance in the windows reflection. My dark brown hair was left down this morning and was still wavy since I hadn't bothered straightening it this morning and I was dressed in my usual work attire, a white business shirt and black pleated pants. It wasn't my favourite choice of clothing but you've got to make sacrifices when it comes to having your dream job. Of course I was the boss of several companies so it wasn't as if anyone would be telling me off for wearing whatever I wanted but I was smart enough to know that if I wanted to sell a product I had to look the way the consumer would expect a professional to look, it sucked but that's life for you. I'd added my own personal style into it a little bit with my favourite black boots and a long cream military jacket so it wasn't too bad.

I smiled over at the barister when the young girl called my name and grabbed my coffee before grabbing a seat waiting for Kristin to come. She should be here soon I hope, I didn't want to have to leave without seeing her. I hadn't seen her in about a week since I had a very bad habit of letting my work get in the way of my friends so I'd rang her up and organised a day to meet for coffee and that day happened to be this morning.

Kris walked down the streets of New York. The morning rush had barely just begun and it was crouded out. That was the one thing she hated about the city: the crouds. She walked down the street towards the Starbucks, where she had planned to meet her friend, Billie. She haden't seen her in what seemed like years, but it had only been a little over a week.

She walked into the starbucks and waited in line. She looked around and saw Billie sitting at a table. She waved and moved up in line. "One Caramel Frappuccino, please." she said to the casheer. She waited until her order was ready, paid, and walked over to the table where Billie was sitting at. "Hey, Billie! It's been so long!" She said, hugging her friend. "It feels like it's been years since we've seen eachother last!"

I grinned and smiled at Kristen when she walked into the coffee house and went straight to the counter to get her coffee. Kristin was younger than me by a pretty big number but she was still a cool girl as far as I was concerned.
"Hey, Billie! It's been so long!""It feels like it's been years since we've seen eachother last!" she said giving me a hug which I returned before sitting back down.
"I know I'm sorry babe I've just been so busy with work" I told her apologetically seconds before my mobile went off declaring I had an email, I looked down at it and quickly read through it in seconds, that was the upside of being such a fast reader, I can read an email in seconds.
"Sorry hon I've gotta do a quick call" I told her frowning and quickly dialling the number of the manager of one of my night clubs, "Jonathan get the supplier on the phone now and tell him to get his arse back there with the right order, now! Understand!

I was a tough boss I knew that but Jonathan wasn't. He let everyone walk right over the top of him so I was constantly having to ring up and tell him to do his job right. The only reason I let him keep his job in the first place was he was great with the other employees and better with the customers, everyone loved Jonathan and he was a real asset when it came to choosing employees. I hung up the phone a minute later and gave Kristin an apologetic smile again, "Sorry about that, the surplier for one of my clubs dropped off the wrong order"

Kris watched as she pulled out her phone and could tell that it was important. She listened to her talk to a guy named Jonathan. Probibly from her workplace. Kris listened to Billie tell her about what had happened. "What was the stuff that he dropped off?" she asked, taking a sip of her coffee.

"What was the stuff that he dropped off?" Kristin asked once I'd thrown my phone into my bag.

"The idiot dropped off a box of straws when I ordered rum, how idiotic can you get" I snorted rolling my eyes. It wasn't even a mistake you could make from reading the order wrong, it was just stupid.

"Anyway enough work talk, how have you been anything exciting happen?" I asked trying to get my mind off of work, if I didn't now I wouldn't be able too and I'd end up leaving early just to get too work. I'm a workaholic and I know it, I'm trying to tone it down a bit but it's really not going anywhere and I know it. I love working, I am the kind of person who can't just sit still and do nothing I have to be doing something that will get me somewhere or I don't enjoy it. I'm strange I know.

Kris listened to Billie tell her about what the supplier dropped off. "That's just odd." she said, laughing a bit.

Kris thought for a bit when Billie asked her if anything new has been going on. "Well, the musical is doing pretty well. But yea, that's mainly it. So, how about you?"

"Well, the musical is doing pretty well. But yea, that's mainly it. So, how about you?" Kristin asked getting a shrug in reply from me, not very sophisticated I know but I didn't have to act like that when I wasn't at work.

"Just work these days" I told her carelessly, "I get up in the morning and got to work and then I come home at night and do more work, I have work issues"

It's not that I didn't enjoy my work either it's just that I didn't really ever do anything else and it was really starting to get to me more than it ever had before.

"When's the musical open? I can't wait to see it" I asked trying to distract myself from work even though it was bound to come charging back in eventually and most likely very soon.

Kris smiled when Billie said that she had "work issues"

"Don't we all..." she said, laughing a bit.

"The musical opened monday, and we had so much fun. Off stage we have so much fun in the rehersals, and I think that it really show's on stage. You definately need to come." she said, thinking about how much fun she had with Lilli, John, Johnny, Jonathan and the gang.

"I'll get down there as soon as I can, just need to get some time off work" I told her nodding my head in agreement. I really did need to get out of the office for a while I spent way too long working and not enough time paying attention to my social life. I need to get a balance in my life or I'm going to end up like one of those old spinsters who only have their work and a few cats. Not that I don't like cats but I do not want to be one of those women. That's as bad as being a housewife which is another thing I wouldn't do if I had a gun pointed to my head. Just the thought of staying home looking after the kids and doing the dishes all day makes me want to jump off the nearest high rise building to my quick death, *Shudder*.

"That'll be fun. I hope you can come sometime soon." she said, taking a sip of her coffee. "So, anything else been new with you?" she asked. She looked out the window and the noticed that the morning rush had begun.
